Welcome! Here you can find details and updates on Temeraire, a Factory Five Racing 818CE (Coupe, Electric) kit car build. The build goal is a polished daily driver car more-so than a race car, while maintaining the race car roots.
This car is named after the main character of the Temeraire Series by Naomi Novik. The series envisions how the Napoleonic Wars would have happened differently if dragons had existed and were tamed and used for war, communications, and general work. Temeraire is a dragon of Chinese descent that is hatched and raised by a British Navy Captain, William Lawrence. Lawrence named the newly hatched dragon after the ship Téméraire, meaning "bold".

Factory Five Racing is a maker of car kits that can be built with minimal resources. Some are replicas or homages to classic cars, like their '33 Hotrod. The 818 (named for its design weight, 818kg) is a space-frame chassis designed to use a Suburu running gear from an '02-'07 Impreza or WRX. The 818 is available in Race (818R), Street (818S), and Coupe (818C) variants, but the frame for all three is mostly identical. The Race variant has a roll cage and other race-oriented features. The Street variant drops the roll cage and adds some extra creature comforts, like support for a soft top. The Coupe Variant is the most feature-inclusive, as it has power windows, a removable hard top, and others. Parts are available to add most features to any of the variants.
The original plan was to do an EV conversion of a muscle car sedan, like a Dodge Charger. The only remaining component from that original plan is the use of a Tesla Model S motor/gearbox/transmission, and a range goal of 200 miles or more. Choosing to build an 818C from scratch over converting a Charger or other ICE vehicle is primarily due to the desire to start with mostly new and known components, and choice over exactly what the end product will be.
